It’s important to know if an upcoming deadline has changed. But it can be challenging to see what’s really crucial if you have too many notifications. Fortunately, GQueues allows you to easily modify which notifications you receive so you never miss a critical alert.
Types of notifications
GQueues sends you notifications for activity other users take on shared or team queues within your account. If you use GQueues solo, you’ll never receive notifications since you’re making all the changes in your account. But if you work with a team, you can choose the type of notifications for each activity to make sure you stay in the loop, and turn off the ones that will just take up space and distract from what’s important.
A key part of setting notifications is choosing the type of notification you’ll respond to best. Is your inbox overflowing, making email alerts easy to miss? Or do you need to make sure the notification stays around until you have dealt with it? Think about your work style when you set your notifications so the high-priority ones don’t fall through the cracks.
Web notifications appear at the top of the page when you are signed in to GQueues on the web. Use web notifications when you want to be able to see everything from within GQueues. If you’re the type of person who can’t ignore a badge, this is a good choice for alerts you never want to miss.
When you receive a web alert, the notifications icon will turn red and display the number of unread notifications.
Clicking the notifications icon will open the notification panel, where you can click on any notification in the list to take you directly to the corresponding task.
You can clear all notifications or view previously read notifications by clicking on the corresponding buttons.
Email notifications are sent to the inbox of your email address associated with GQueues. Use email notifications when you want to be able to easily mark them as unread or if you want to be able to follow a task’s workflow without leaving your inbox.
Email notifications show you what information changed, and a task summary for quick reference. If you are a collaborator on the task, you can reply directly to the email notification and your reply will be added as a comment.
Set notifications for your account
By default, GQueues sends you a web and email notification for all activity performed by collaborators on your account. To make sure important alerts aren’t lost in a sea of notifications, you should adjust your settings according to your work style.
How to update your notification settings
Go to the Notifications tab in your GQueues Settings. Here you’ll see a list of actions others can take that will trigger notifications. You can choose to turn off notifications for a certain activity, or only have email or web notifications turned on.
Set notifications on specific queues
Different queues require different alerts. When you adjust a queue’s notification preferences, it will override your account-wide notifications for that specific queue. For example, you may do this for a queue where you don’t have any action items - you’re just there to stay in the loop. You can turn off notifications for activity you would normally want to know about but clogs up your mental space in that instance.
How to update notification settings for a queue
You can update a queue’s notifications in two places:
Open the queue, click the More menu and choose Set notifications from the dropdown.
Find the queue on the left-hand panel and choose Set notifications from its dropdown menu.
This will open a pop-up menu where you can make changes to this queue’s specific notifications.
