Tasks are the building blocks of GQueues! Here’s what you need to know to get started.
Add a task
Navigate to the queue you’d like the task to be in and click the Add task button to create a new task at the end of the queue.
Control where you add new tasks
By default, new tasks will be added to the end of a queue. If you prefer to have tasks inserted at the beginning of a queue, you can adjust your settings in the Queues tab of GQueues Settings.
To insert a task in the location opposite of the set default, hold the Shift key while clicking the Add task button.
If you are currently typing the title of the last task in the list, simply hit the Tab key to create a new task below it.
You can also use keyboard shortcuts to insert tasks anywhere in the queue.
i - insert a new task below the current task
Shift + i - insert a new task above the current task
o - insert a new task at the bottom of the queue or subtasks
Shift + o - insert a new task at the top of the queue or subtasks
Set date for a task
To set a date for a task, hover your mouse over the item and click the calendar button to choose the desired date.
To remove a date for a task, click the Clear All button.
👉 Pro Tip: Use Quick Add to set the date for a task at the same time you name it
Set task time
Once you have set a date for a task, you can also set a specific time. Choose a time from the dropdown menu or type in a specific time and click Done.
To clear the time, delete the text or choose No time from the dropdown menu.
Set duration for a task
When you set the date for a task you can also set the duration, which will be reflected in the event length on Google Calendar.
Choose the duration from the menu or type in a custom duration. Tasks with times can be as short as 5 minutes. Tasks with only a date must be at least 1 day long.
You can set a default duration for tasks in your Settings.
Set reminder for a task
Reminders in GQueues are only available if you have activated Google Calendar Syncing.
Once you’ve set a date for a task, you can also set a reminder for X minutes before the task starts. There are two options for reminders:
Email - An email is sent to the address associated with your account
Pop-up - If you have Google Calendar open, an alert will pop up with the reminder.
You can get these reminders even when you don’t have Google Calendar open by enabling Chrome notifications.
You can choose a time for a reminder from the menu or type in a custom amount of time. For tasks with no time set, the reminder will appear at the specified minutes before midnight.
To clear a reminder, choose No Reminder from the menu.
You can set a default reminder for tasks in the Calendar tab of your GQueues settings.
Add notes to a task
To add a note, hover over the task and click the note icon. You can also add notes using keyboard shortcuts. Just type n on the current task. Type in the space provided.
You can format your notes using the toolbar at the bottom of the notes field.
Common keyboard shortcuts for formatting, such as Command + B or Ctrl + B for bolding text, will also work when editing task notes!
Available formatting for notes includes:
Bold, italicize, underline, and strikethrough
Hyperlink text
Bulleted and numbered lists
Quote, inline code, and code blocks
Change text and highlight color
Add new lines in notes
Use these keyboard combinations to add new lines in task notes:
Enter or Return adds a new paragraph
Shift + Enter or Shift + Return adds a new line break
Ctrl + Enter or Command + Return (or click outside the notes field) stops editing notes
Notes formatting in mobile
The notes formatting toolbar is only available on the web at this time. When you format notes for a task on the web, the corresponding formatting will show on the task notes on mobile in markdown format. Once you've added formatting to task notes via the web, you can then edit the markdown version of those notes on mobile and the corresponding change will be made on the web as well!
Move task to a new queue
To change the queue where a task lives, simply drag and drop it to the desired queue's location.
