Learn the basics of creating and editing tasks in GQueues including how to set a date, time, duration, reminder and add notes.

Tasks are the building blocks of GQueues! Here’s what you need to know to get started.

Add a task

Navigate to the queue you’d like the task to be in and click the Add task button to create a new task at the end of the queue.

Click the Add task button to create a new task. Then start typing the task name.

Control where you add new tasks

  • By default, new tasks will be added to the end of a queue. If you prefer to have tasks inserted at the beginning of a queue, you can adjust your settings in the Queues tab of GQueues Settings.

  • To insert a task in the location opposite of the set default, hold the Shift key while clicking the Add task button.

  • If you are currently typing the title of the last task in the list, simply hit the Tab key to create a new task below it.

  • You can also use keyboard shortcuts to insert tasks anywhere in the queue.

    • i - insert a new task below the current task

    • Shift + i - insert a new task above the current task

    • o - insert a new task at the bottom of the queue or subtasks

    • Shift + o - insert a new task at the top of the queue or subtasks

Set date for a task

To set a date for a task, hover your mouse over the item and click the calendar button to choose the desired date.

To remove a date for a task, click the Clear All button.

Set task time

Once you have set a date for a task, you can also set a specific time. Choose a time from the dropdown menu or type in a specific time and click Done.

To clear the time, delete the text or choose No time from the dropdown menu.

Set duration for a task

When you set the date for a task you can also set the duration, which will be reflected in the event length on Google Calendar.

Choose the duration from the menu or type in a custom duration. Tasks with times can be as short as 5 minutes. Tasks with only a date must be at least 1 day long.

You can set a default duration for tasks in your Settings.

Set reminder for a task

Reminders in GQueues are only available if you have activated Google Calendar Syncing.

Once you’ve set a date for a task, you can also set a reminder for X minutes before the task starts. There are two options for reminders:

  • Email - An email is sent to the address associated with your account

  • Pop-up - If you have Google Calendar open, an alert will pop up with the reminder.

    • You can get these reminders even when you don’t have Google Calendar open by enabling Chrome notifications.

    • If you install the Google Calendar app for Android or iOS these reminders will also appear as notifications on your mobile device (even when offline).

You can choose a time for a reminder from the menu or type in a custom amount of time. For tasks with no time set, the reminder will appear at the specified minutes before midnight.

To clear a reminder, choose No Reminder from the menu.

You can set a default reminder for tasks in the Calendar tab of your GQueues settings.

Add notes to a task

To add a note, hover over the task and click the note icon. Type in the space provided.

You can also add notes using keyboard shortcuts. Just type n on the current task.

👉 Pro Tip: To add a new line in a note, hold the Shift key down and press Enter.

You can change your settings for how to add line breaks in notes from the Tasks tab of your GQueues settings.

Move task to a new queue

To change the queue where a task lives, simply drag and drop it to the desired queue's location.
